Scentwork Workshop
Beginners & Foundations
Service Description
Beginners & Foundations Scentwork Workshop Scentwork is one of the most natural and rewarding activities you can enjoy with your dog. Every dog has an incredible nose, and this workshop is designed to help you unlock its full potential. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a more experienced team wanting to revisit the all-important foundations (because let’s be honest, none of us do that enough), this is the perfect place to start. Over three hours, we’ll cover the core building blocks of scentwork: Motivation – building excitement and drive to search using food or toys. Independence – teaching your dog to problem-solve without constant direction. Persistence & Duration – helping them keep searching even when the answer isn’t obvious. Systematic Searching – introducing patterns so your dog learns to cover an area thoroughly. Indication & Communication – learning how your dog tells you they’ve found something, and how to reward at source. Handler Skills – timing, observation, and handling the lead so you can truly work as a team. This workshop is suitable for all breeds and ages. You’ll work one at a time, ensuring every dog has the space and support they need. By the end, you’ll understand how to set up fun searches at home, how to read your dog’s body language, and most importantly — how to make scentwork a game your dog will love for life. 📍 Venue: The GrowForward Project, Chelfham (near Barnstaple) 📅 Tuesday 25th November 10am - 1pm ⏰ Duration: 3 hours, finishing with coffee & chat 🐾 Dogs: Groups of up to 5, working individually Come along, build the foundations, and discover why scentwork is the ultimate activity for dogs of all kinds .
